Adam Tas has a unique way of blending heartfelt lyrics and music into something that grabs a hold of you and speaks straight to your soul. His newest release, “Patatas en Pyptabak” is certainly no exception.
The album comprises 13 tracks that were meticulously crafted to tell stories of people, love, friendship, loss, life journeys, unity and hope in a different way, and with a distinctly patriotic and unashamedly spiritual undertone.
Tas’ distinct voice blends effortlessly with the sounds of guitar, bass, piano, harmonica, drum and even symphonic elements in his performance of songs like the title track, “Melk-en-heuning-vrou”, “Die laastekitaar op aarde”, “Afrikagrond”, “My moeder is ‘n taal” and “Manna vir die boere” – making for masterfulalbum that is grounded, genuine and raw, yet beautifully poetic.
The album also features two duets – the tongue in cheek “Ekslaapslegsedertekdood is” with RicusNel and the Nick Cave favourite,“Where the wild roses grow”, with Andriëtte –adding tones of humour and drama to complement a rich musical offering – an album that is bound to soar to the top of many a chart.
