The Globe Theatre

Johannesburg's original Globe Theatre opened in the early 1890's. Later renamed the Empire Palace of Varieties, it hosted the first moving picture shows in South Africa. In 1907, Gandhi launched his campaign of 'passive resistance' at the Empire Palace of Varieties.
The Globe Theatre presents a variety of entertaining revues, music and comedy shows. The warm and intimate atmosphere offers cocktail seating, a full-service bar and a delectable menu of light snacks. It can also be used as a function venue.
