The children’s hit musical Charlotte’s Web, owing to popular demand, will play its seventh season at National Children’s Theatre (NCT), 3 Junction Avenue, Parktown.
The book, Charlotte’s Web by E.B. White, on which the musical play is based, was named the best American children’s book of the past two hundred years by the Children’s Literature Association and is on the recommended reading list for primary schools. The stage version beautifully captures the enchanting story of the original in a thrilling theatrical experience, which brings a new dimension to this beloved classic. In Charlotte’s own words: “This is SOME MUSICAL!”
Charlotte’s Web tells the story of how Fern - a young girl who loves animals and speaks to them - with the help of a beautiful spider named Charlotte A. Cavatica, rescues an irresistible little pig from her father’s axe, the usual fate of a runt. She names him Wilbur. At Zuckerman’s Farm, Wilbur also makes other friends, including Gossip Goose and Gloomy Sheep and, of course, the spider: Charlotte.
This popular tale takes audiences to Zuckerman’s Farm, where Wilbur finds out he is on course to meet the butcher and land up at the dinner table – as the main course, not the guest. The remarkable and creative spider, Charlotte, and her farmyard friends rescue Wilbur and the whole town begins talking. ‘Some pig’ indeed!
